Edge Of The Goddess

"They say that the Eladrin are our allies. That we should ignore the abomination of their breeding programs and a thousand other sins because what walks out from the mists is worse.

I say that this is a damned lie, spread by men too feeble to call evil by its name. There is no difference between the masters of Maelthrazra and the filth of Mourclesis. Many of the Guardians would agree with us, if they were not forced to clench their jaws and do as their Patriarch says.

Well, we have no such limitation. We will do the Goddess' work where her own favored cannot. My friends, I say to you today that our struggle against the foulness that infests Asherah will not be over until that black ziggurat is put to the torch, its slaves liberated, and its masterminds slaughtered with the rest of the world's monsters."
—Paithan.

The "Edge of the Goddess" is named deliberately to bring to mind the Hands of the Goddess hierodules. They like to consider themselves an unofficial third wing of the Goddess Tower; as a point of fact, some Guardians are a part of the organization - presumably in secret, although some members of the Edge like to imagine their support is sanctioned but furtive.

Edge of the Goddess is led by an enigmatic man called "Paithan," a Half-Elf whose mother escaped Maelthrazra while pregnant with him. His hatred of the Eladrin is legendary. Arx under the leadership of Danar-Kel, who seeks to unite the three cities, is regarded as aiding and abetting Maelthrazra's wickedness. Paithan and his followers believe that the Dreaming City is the only civilization worth saving; that it's a shame the other two haven't just been devoured by Mourclesis already.

The Edge of the Goddess' activities are always ostensibly meant to advance Ascelian interests - they "help people in need," who in turn owe them favors, in a way not dissimilar from Levanter. What distinguishes Paithan's organization from the Inquisitors and Nightscape is their sense of smug righteousness about everything they do. They steal or kill and call it serving their country.

Streetwise 26: There is an ongoing guild war between Levanter and the Edge of the Goddess. While the former Inquisitors are also anti-Arx and anit-Maelthrazra, they're so purely on racist grounds. The Edge hates the cities as entities, but has nothing against their people as such: in fact, plenty of their members are Brakenrock or even repenting Eladrin who despise their former homeland. The Edge also has no patience for Levanter's "wronged by the Guardians" mentality, since they like to consider themselves as doing things too "dirty" for the Guardians to be able to do, but of which the "purer" elements of the Goddess Tower secretly approve.

Streetwise 30: The Edge of the Goddess has recently started an aggressive effort to get Arx and Maelthrazra to destroy one another. The recent murder of an Eladrin ambassador in Danar-Kel's entourage is rumored to be only the beginning.
