The Undying Lands

"And on that black coast, I opened my eyes."

—Chronicle of the Black Sword, Chapter Nine.

The Undying Lands are a glistening expanse of black glass beaches that Mourclesis has spared for reasons no one knows. Considered the easternmost point of Asherah, Caspyga is a winding coil of dark beauty that, like Arx and Maelthrazra stands on the very edge of the Dread Sea. It is the largest contiguous expanse of the continent to be untainted by more than ten times its closest “rival,” the peaks that hold the Brakenrock Tribe's great city.

Despite its seeming safety from Mourclesis, there are two reasons that the Undying Lands have not been settled by many of Asherah's people. Their name puts the first reason succinctly. Caspyga is the realm of the Revenants, and has been as far back as history tells. No matter where the dead fall, their bodies somehow rise up from the black glass of their realm's coast. That glass is the second reason only a few daring villagers have tried to settle near the wandering dead: beautiful as they are, the Undying Lands are a suitable home for their forsaken masters, because nothing can grow there.
